What camera?

Recommended Posts

What camera/s do you use and and why and what would be your ideal camera (if you don't already have it?).

I have a mirrorless Canon G5X, DSLR Nikon D3400 + extra macro lense and bridge Panasonic FZ2000.  The Panasonic is used the most as it's so adaptable, has very quick focus and very good image stabilisation (unsteady hands).  I'd love a Leica.

Great Debbie, finally a nice braggart thread again.Ok, I start:

All sonys:

A6000, my first, now my food-porn-camera, always with a 50 mm (FF) macro-lens and a flashlight.

A 7II. my best, I bought because I was young and stupid and badly influenced by some photo-club-pixel-peepers. Very good camera, best quality, no doubt. But would not buy again, too expensive, not worth the cost.

RX 100 M6, my darling, always with me, always ready to shot, best snapshot camera, fast and small and great.

RX 10 M3, my newest, good when high zooming is wished, a bit too big.

AX 53, my amateur video cam

And, for earning the money, all DJIs:

P3A, becomes dusty, do not use any more.

P4P, very good, using for real life work

Mavic Air, very small, for holiday and bike

Mavic 2 P, most used for stock and video

If I should decide for only one, I would take the RX 100 M6.

Just the Nikon D5300, with several lenses. I' been thinking about buying the new GoPro 8 black. But also I am interested in getting a drone. Nevertheless checking the prices I am not convinced at all.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Phone

Nikon D5600 with 18-55, 70-300, 35 1.8, 10-20 lenses.

No dream cameras. These two devices are all I'll ever need to make the images I want as long as they're working.

I do have dream lenses through. The 200-500 Nikon has always been on the wishlist. Someday...

Sony A6300 - for good light , convenience and short travel - images and videos.

Nikon Z6 - for nature (colours, the reason), long travel and low light - images and videos.

I have got everything for what I shoot as of now, so I do not dream of cameras / lenses any more. After few years, who knows what will be required by then ! Dreams, do change.

Regards,

Rudra

Yes, I had two lots of discounts applied to mine but I pay in AUD which meant a cost of $1900 aud for the drone. I've been fascinated by drones for quite some time long before buying one and then I thought why not spend a few more hundred dollars on the later version 2 now that I am using it for stock photos and videos - which has been a help far and above what I would of otherwise been able to do so. I really cannot speak for other drones as i have never owned one but can say this, I much prefer the smaller version drone than say the P4P for example, because for the types of footages I like to capture with it, I need to be as discreet as absolutely possible.

I've got a Sony A7 that I bought second hand last year and a Samyang 35mm F2.8. Also a Canon G9X for when I want to travel light. I haven't used the Canon for stock yet though.

I'm saving up for the Sony 24-105mm as it'll give me more flexibility than my fixed 35mm and the image stabilization will be a plus as my hands aren't that stable.

I have the nikon 7100 and a tokina 11-16, the basic 18-140 vr lens. I have sold over 25,000 images in 3 years on microstock. You don't have to have expensive equipment. The important thing is to plan what we want to photograph and very important what day and time. He never photographed on clear sky days that say nothing.

I shoot with my Canon Rebel and an assortment of lenses, and my iPhone SE.

I also want a Leica but I got a little bit turned off on Leica last year. My partner took me to their store in DC and the people working there were incredibly rude. But you know what I still want to try a Leica camera.

My dream cameras would be a Leica Q and a Canon EOS R.

Well, I need drone for my day job anyway, so I had them before I started stock.

But, thinking just about stock: mavic 2 P is about same price as good camera plus lens, probably even cheaper.

Aerials still sell, they are my bestsellers. But problem often is the law. You need insurance, and nowadays you are not allowed t fly at the interesting places without special permission. And you must have a license to fly.

Therefore, my older aerials, made before law got strikter, sell better than new ones. And, if I have special permissions because of job, I try to get some extra fotos for stock.

Anyway, as I said, aerials sell. So if decision is one more camera or a drone, drone is better investment.

I'm shooting an older and a newer version of Nikon "pro-sumer"  grade cameras, and a variety of lenses, of which I use my macros most. I don't see me ever getting a FF camera, and I also don't have a dream camera.

*edit - oops, forgot I have a GoPro, too, LOL :)

I've had Canon 6D for a while--love it with my 16-35 f4 and 100-400 for wildlife, don't like the 24-105 lens, isn't sharp enough

More recently, got Sony a7iii with 70-200 love it for video, low light, wildlife and tamron 17-28 great lens maintains straight lines, doesn't have the distortion I get with canon

love my dji Mavic Air with polarized pro filters, may get the pro 2 for better image quality and ability to set way points

love GoPro hero7 for driving video, timelapse, hyperlapse, underwater, action shots and selfies

Going to get 24-105 for the sony for travel all around use

My go-to camera at the moment is my Nikon P510, haven't bought a new camera in years, except if you include smartphones my current one is a Huawei P30. I was always a Canon photographer but got tired of carrying a 15kg backpack with two bodies, battery packs and 5 lenses, etc so I sold them all. I would however love to own a Hasselblad or Mamiya, maybe if I win the lottery. 🙂 I did consider buying a drone but the restrictions in the Netherlands are so intense that I actually couldn't shoot what I wanted to without risking a fine.

Aside from my video gear, I have the Sony RX10 IV and the RX100 V. The camera I dream of is a Sony bridge camera with the built in 24-600 mm zoom of the RX 10 but the sensor of the A 7. Preferably in the size of the RX 100! 🙂  Doesn't exist, unfortunately.

Agree!  My go-to camera is also the RX10IV.  It's relatively light so I take it with me in a day pack pretty much everywhere I go.  Great to have the reach to 600 mm and not to have to carry extra lenses. Sensor spots are a thing of the past!  When I go skiing I use my Sony RX100VII pocket camera with a neck strap.  So small I forget I'm carrying it. I've kept my Nikon D750 that I use with my 50 mm F1.8 and am going to finally get a macro lens for it. My work camera is a Genoptik Gryphax.
