Ultra wide for crop sensor.

for new 3rd party, the Tokina AT-X 11-20mm F2.8 PRO DX is probably your best bet, but I would probably look for a refurbished or used in excellent condition  Nikon lens first

Tokina was founded by Nikon engineers and Nikon and Tokina use the same glass manufacturer (Hoya)

I recently bought the Tokina 11-20 and like it but haven't used it enough give you much detail on it's performance.  If you're thinking of using it to photograph the night sky you will want the extra speed of the F2.8.

SIgma EX 10-20 I'm pretty happy with it. Just another option to look into?

Whatever you do and anyone else who reads this, stay away from the Rokinon 8mm which is made with at least three brand names. Terrible edge light drop off and unnatural astigmatism and distortion. Affordable yes, I would keep a cheap one just for night sky and timelapse, but for high quality photos, no thanks. I'd show you an accepted photo using the 8mm but I don't think I ever had one, before I dumped it. :)

I've had a Tokina wide before it was excellent.
