Noise - help

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've had some pictures recently rejected for the reason : Image contains excessive noise, grain, artifacts and/or is poorly rasterized.

This was for pictures taken at 100 ISO, with Nikon Df and very good glass. No post processing apart from slight tweaks to saturation or vibrancy and then converting from raw to jpeg. No resizing, nothing.

It's no big deal and I fully accept a rejection is a rejection, but my skills need improving and I would just appreciate any pointers as to what I may be doing wrong.

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers

Steve

If you post the rejected images in the critique forum, we can give more specific advice. You may have color fringing.

ISO 100 huh?

a)without seeing the image, i can only guess these possibilities...ie. most likely the tweaking of saturation , contrast,...you must have given it too much saturation, as doing so will add noise to the image.

or the saving of jpeg, and re-saving it again,etc..

will degrade the image , thus adding noise.

b)does your camera have incamera options to increased sharpness , increased saturation, increased contrast..etc..

maybe the settings to these are not set at 0

if so, this is similar to post-processing .

c)are you using the highest resolution?

most cameras having different setting of jpeg compressions.

other than these, it could be that your exposure and lighting was not proper.

my guess is a)

as you mentioned :

No post processing apart from slight tweaks to saturation or vibrancy and then converting from raw to jpeg:
