How to deal with "Content contains noise, film grain, compression artifacts, pixelation, and/or posterization..."

Recommended Posts

If your content was rejected with “Content contains noise, film grain, compression artifacts, pixelation, and/or posterization that detracts from the main subject,” it is most likely because of one of the following issues:

Noise

  • Multi-colored dots or specks, blotches of color or random variations in brightness.
  • Film Grain
  • Visible particles of metallic silver in analog film.

    Compression Artifacts / Macroblocks

  • Jagged square-shaped artifacts caused by image or video compression.

Dave,

While the above is an excellent explanation of the rejection reason, I wouldn't go so far as to say your problem is solved.  Shutterstock now does most if not all reviews via Artificial Intelligence and all indications are that the systems IQ is well below 50.  Reviews, both for stills and video, are inconsistent at best.  It may take multiple submissions of a particular image or clip and then it may still be rejected after correction of the problem.

Good Luck!
