Wilm Ihlenfeld
I don't need a first of January. Level 5 hardly brings in anything even now. ☹️

But there I've taken in more than twice as much in December so far. And that's despite the fact that I haven't sold any special licences worth mentioning there.

Wilm Ihlenfeld
I just received my first sale of the year. It was one for 10 cents. And I can't distinguish these level 1 - 10 cents from the level 5 - 10 cents. They look identical. In the last weeks I had masses of 10 Cents subs.
HodagMedia
For @Reimar and anyone else who doesn't want to search through 262 pages. This is estimated based on what the advertised prices are for buyers. As an example, I got my last DL of 2020 and it was 67¢ there is nothing like that on the calculations. Someone might have purchased a discounted pack. But I got 30% of whatever that was, and the number is = 67¢ Pretty simple? The other part is, the minimum is 10¢ because 30% of what someone pays for a 750 image pack, would be less than that. I still don't know how people can't understand a minimum, which is over our actual earned percentage. The 2-10 and 50 packs we get the percentage for our level. Pretty simple? EL and Singles are not included, because there's no way to know the base prices someone might pay. All I know is, I get a percentage of that number, based on my level. I did that to show where I would get 10c the pink/salmon, and yellow is lower than what anyone at minimum, 25c, received before the change. People should be able to see what the buyers are paying for each image, which is why the new commission structure was probably created. The reset? That could have been on a annual basis, or every 6 months and still rewarded people who add new and better selling images. This whole, everyone starts on the bottom, every year, is a bit drastic. But here we are and off we go into the New Year.
Popular Post Andreas Prott
An open letter: Dear Shutterstock, years ago you implemented large volume subscription plans for low per image costs. I assume that you thought at that time that it makes sense since not all slots will be used anyways. It seems that you now know that this was a complete fail. You had killed the microstock market and needed to make the contributors pay for your failure by paying them only a fraction on sub sales. So on May 25th you announced a one-sided change of our royalties which was packaged as a motivation to earn more by submitting more images. In fact the opposite happened. I immediately stopped uploading images because of the pay cut which hasn't any added benefit for the contributors - you just grab more of the contributors money. Up to today I didn't deactivate my images and videos but did some statistics for a well informed decision. Here is the truth about seven months under the new payment scheme: I was on level 4 as a photographer and on level 1 as a videographer on June 1st - so I should have been well off since I was coming from old level 2 because I started late at shutter and didn't earn high lifetime earnings until May 2020. Nevertheless my earnings new scheme vs old scheme dropped by 9.9% in total since then (comparison of real world downloads under both payment schemes - so not comparing different years with different numbers of DLs or RPD). On January 1st you reset my level to 1 again. So I will temporarily earn even less. My projection based on the statistics gathered is an overall loss over the whole year 2021 of 18.1%. Microstock might be a pure numbers game for you - for us it is not, our day has only 24 hours. Did you ever think about whether the companies with the large volume subscription plans would be able to pay at least 1$ per image or more? The buyers total cost of searching and processing the images is much higher than the image license itself. So your large volume low price subscription plans are hurting your suppliers and don't really provide relevant additional value for your customers. If the customer doesn't use all the image slots you even cash in the difference - so it is even better for you if customers choose a larger plan because the number of unused slots which earn you 100% is higher. I have decided to not support your greedy new earnings scheme and will continue not to provide you with new fresh content. In the long run you will be getting what you pay for. I don't think you will reverse your decision but ask you to think about how your suppliers can make a living of their work. How about scrapping the large volume subscription plans or charge at least 1$ per image? How about giving an opt out option for subscription sales (or large volume sub plans which pay less than 0,33$ to the supplier)? My new content submitted to other agencies since May 25th is performing so well, that in the meantime my earnings on Shutterstock are only a fraction of the others. That is money you could also have made if you wouldn't have put off your supplier - 65% or 70% of something is much better than 85% of nothing. You might argue that buyers will buy other images on your site instead but in the long run the drain of fresh content will backfire. You not only have shareholders but also stakeholders like your suppliers - think about it! Best regards, Andreas PS: BTW you even make us pay for customers paying beforehands or with monthly billing. They pay less - you work with the money upfront - we get less peanuts without any added value for us!
Tom Tietz
Very well stated Andreas!! I too have stopped adding new content until and if they reverse this new process. I and many others here do not feel valued anymore and that is sad. Hopefully smarter heads will prevail but if not I don't see a future with this agency. Sadly though I am pretty sure they could care less!!!! We can survive without SS, question is how do they survive without us contributors? Doubtful? Wake up SS!!!!!
RukiMedia
I earned 1000 $ less this year, which means SS stole 1000 $ from my pocket. I hope karma exists.

Unfortunately, I think there is enough ppl willing to upload for peanuts... Hence, they will survive fine without those few who stop contributing, but for many of those, SS is the main microstock income source... 🙁
