Just like real work, where I don't come up and say "I have an idea, how you should do this." Because management is supposed to be the brains and I'm just the hired help. (plus they usually already thought of that, or have reason already why "we can't do that", or they don't really want to hear new ideas) I'm not getting paid to worry, not getting stock for photo achievements, not anything, except what I earn on my own. 👍 If I was getting paid to care or think, yes, then I would worry about the direction things are headed. At least SS isn't being traded by private equity investment firms, like happened to Getty, which was so far in debt that they weren't making enough to pay the interest on their debt. That might have changed by now, after being through the financial ringer. But they went from creation in 1997 to stock, to private, to being partners with H&F, 2008 sold to them for 2.4 billion, 2012 sold to Carlisle for 3.3 billion, and I might be missing some of the shared details, like the Getty share during the H&F times. Getty bought back Getty in 2018, and is trying to bring the near dead company, back to life. How to take something good, built solid, with good ideas and solid foundation and turn it into a cesspool. The investment people made money. If we see SS going into the spin cycle, we'll first recognize that when a private equity firm or some investment company, buys ShutterStock. Then start being afraid. 😲 My biggest thing to watch for right now is when will this thread reach 291 pages? 😉 Thanks @Tony ALS corrected the typo. Never going to get to 291 pages it seems!

Oh yes and more, just wait until January 1st when two things will happen for sure. A flood of angry people who just discovered they were reset to level one, and more people who are already unhappy, coming back just to say good-bye? Myself, I did the work, the images are here, I get some money. I may not be jumping with joy, but I'm taking something from the work I put in for over ten years. If I was so professional and doing stunning work, I wouldn't be uploading to Microstock in the first place. 😉

As I see any payments from photography as a pleasant surprise, I exited from here some time ago and took my business elsewhere. Thankfully I had only joined 6 months before the dreadful decision to cut the payments down to the minimal levels. Less than 500 images didn't hurt too much and the rejection reasons were becoming annoying anyway. Good luck to those who continue here.
Lynda Lehmann
I've had just about 3,000 sales here. My feeling is that by reducing our payments, Shutterstock has broken the contract. We all signed up under different conditions and I'm not going to scramble to upload for the meager earning potential here. I can do much better on other stock sites. I think you've done your artists and photographers as well as yourselves, a great disservice. Lynda Lehmann
Tom Tietz
This is pathetic. You should reward contributors who stick with SS not screw them. This is like taking a 50%+ pay cut. Are all the employees treated the same or is it just the contributors who are getting hosed. Really need to rethink this before you lose your best and most loyal contributors!!! I am no longer uploading until this is is reversed. there are many alternatives out there who actually value their contributors. SAD, VERY SAD!!!!

Wait for the realisation of the full impact come January. The forum might not be able to cope with the number of posts when the furore really starts.

Paul Laubach
Not only are rejections absolutely ridiculous, this new payment scheme is as well. I'm just a small nobody in stock photography, but this still angers me to no end.
Ahmed Elborollosy
Dears, You have to understand the anger of contributors because what you decided is actually upsetting the group, If you are seeking to reflect the market changes, and encourage the new and highly requested work you should do different approach. you have to count the number of downloads backlogged to previous year, if the content of the contributor just flashed at the beginning and then decreased the level will automatically will decrease by time. but it is not a logic at all to reset my level while my content is still counting and selling in the same rate, you are wasting contributors efforts in this way, and it is not a fair method.

blvdone
Thank you Shutterstock management for humbling us. We were spoiled and overconfident for too long. Come January, we'll all be reminded that we as creators are doing this for love, not money.

Sherry Yates Young
Congratulations, Shutterstock! You have sucessfully convinced me that stock photography isn't worth my time and effort any more. There's just something about an endless stream of 10, 12 and 14 cents that fails to motivate me to supply your greed machine any longer. Maybe someday, if your stinginess is rightfully rewarded and you become Canstock Photo 2.0, I may re-visit this decision. But probably not. Good luck to all the surfs and peasants who keep producing for the pennies they throw at you. You'll need it.

Tom Tietz
I have a question. Will all the employees and management at SS have their pay rolled back as well and then have to start over from where they were when they first started. A fair question since that is what they are essentially doing to their contributors. Fat chance that is happening, guess we are the only once having to bend over and smile!!!

Great images Tom. 10 cents for the quality of work you produce is disgraceful and immoral.
Olena Zaskochenko
Firewell shutterstock, rest in peace. You was the first one I get paid for my photos, now I will not longer add fresh content. Other stocks sell less, but pay more, so I will send the best fresh content here. Shutterstock will became the "theoldstock", will sell old photos.

Michael Warwick
I saw an ad on MSNBC the other day for SS. I guess with all the new earnings or reduced expenses, SS can now advertise on TV. And they were offering 10 free images with a new subscription. SS...the new March of Dimes. Maybe we can deduct our 10 cent earnings as charitable donation.
