New earnings structure for Contributors

you lot who call yourselves the management of shutterstock. Yes I'm talking to you .It seems that contributors do not understand your new (nerdy) payment structure. Pay people decent rates or your site is going to be reported for unfair trading practises. It's a definite abuse of power. We need unions for self employed people or don't they have that in US?. With COVID 19 it's made photographers lives very hard, no weddings photoshoots etc.in many countries. SS don't have a clue they seem to just live in a bubble.

In US law is very loose and easy to avoid, its basically profit first people next. I worked in 3 different EU countries and unions are everywhere some jobs you arent even able to start without sighing unions contract. But true is that our work is more a freelancer job and its easy to exploit and hard to regulate internationally. We dont bring enough money to interest any unions i guess. Most of our earnings are taken by agencies.

I have the impression that Stan Pavlovsky used to sell potatoes, can not a person who sells the work of illustrators and photographers so relates to the cost of labor of the author. He does not understand that a good specialist will not sell his work for $ 0.10.

I think with this kind of guidance it's the end for Shutterstock.

Sorry if it's not very clear, English is not my language.

It's not very difficult to calculate how much money Shutterstock lose every minute thanks to brilliant CEO and co. I like this game. Let's continue to test the stamina and nerves. :) To me, this means not so much, Shutterstock is just one of my income sources and I will never sell my images for 10c. Just persist guys, we will win in less than one month. Finally, the CEO will get the message: It's been a great pleasure to work with you, but unfortunately......

After these first 18 days my earnings remained unchanged, about 10 dollars / day, this is because they are now at level 5.

What worries me most are the days when I only sell subscription images. Yesterday, for example, I sold 16 images with a profit of 2.04 dollars. Disgusting, lower than the tip, which I would give to my son!

I admire all the contributors who froze the portfolio, in my opinion to continue working for the SS under such conditions is crazy, I have heard many excuses these days, I am just asking you: do you love yourself?

Alberto,

this is where the core problem lies.
You are now level 5. One level higher than in the old earning system. Yet you have no extra income.
I don't know how long it will take you to reach level 5 again next year. Anyway, you'll earn less by then.

So the bottom line is you're in the red.

In an email that is going out today, we are announcing that we will be updating the earnings structure that determines how much you get paid when customers license your work. We are making this adjustment in order to reflect changes in the market for creative content, help to create fair opportunities for all our contributors, and reward performance with greater earnings potential.

Starting on June 1st, 2020, your earnings for each license will be based on your Image Level or your Video Level.

earnings-for-images-forum.png.89c1b679a14834960f019668d0f028d0.png

earnings-for-videos-forum.png.803eddaf31ab4c904b5d8d660bc0495a.png

On June 1, you will be placed in an Image Level and a Video Level based on your download count so far in 2020. The email you receive today will let you know which levels you are in as of this morning.

How does it work?

  • These new levels are based on the number of times your content is licensed rather than your lifetime earnings.
  • All contributors reset to level 1 for both images and videos every year on January 1st.
  • There are separate levels for images and for videos, and you graduate through them independently based on your download count in each category.

End for shutterstock, other agency give $0,30 for 1 image sell, shutterstock $0,10 😂😂😂, my time for design get paid $0,10 for 1 vector sell, is crazy administration

Quite interestingly, last winter I also developed a system of levels for myself, how to upload images on different stocks. Shutterstock and the other two stocks were number one in this system. Then there were other stocks, where I uploaded a month after Shutterstock. The lower the price for my images were paid at a certain stock, the later I uploaded images on such stock. 10 cents per image, um, this is the fifth level in my system. I'm uploading a year later than level one and a limited number of images. But now Shutterstock itself has taken this fifth level for me. But it warned me about it just a couple of days before that innovation. It's not fair!

Goodmorning everyone ,
I disabled my sales and portfolio 30 minutes ago.
I was a professional photographer, photojournalist of sport and entertainment from 1991 to 2014, in these years of work I have suffered two thefts of my photographic equipment and after the second theft in December 2014, robbed after a football game at leaving the San Siro stadium in Milan, , I stopped working, taken by a deep depression and unable to buy back professional equipment for the third time (the money was gone).
After three years of different jobs I thought I'd start selling my big Photo Archive.
I have been in SS since February 2018, I uploaded with great effort about 9500 images of sport and entertainment photojournalism, to make these uploads I sent about 300/350 requests for Case numbers and sent press accreditations (Concerts pass and Football Tickets Campo) fighting often and willingly with people inside incompetent SS especially on analog photography.
In these two years so far I have had about 11,389 downloads, I was quite happy with the earnings at the end of the month, although selling the images of David Bowie or the 2006 World Cup in Germany at $ 0.36 was not the best, but left without money for me it was a profit.
In these 18 days from the rate change, I found myself moving from level 4 to 5, I waited before deactivating my sales, to verify the earnings. Nothing has changed.
I can no longer accept such sales.
I have already taken steps to move my archive to other stock agencies in recent weeks.
I joined the Stock Submitters Coalition page a few minutes ago, https://www.facebook.com/groups/261369748434285, and I await your confirmation reply.
I join you and I am at your disposal.
Fabio

A follow-up to my yesterday's post where I have reported that 425.600+ vector illustrations were removed from Shutterstock in just one day, June 15th.

Here's another great achievement made possible by the current Shutterstock management. 996.200+ vector illustrations removed by authors on June 16th. Almost 1.5m vectors gone in just two days. Keep it up, brothers and sisters. Show them who really makes this company work. It's you, the authors, not these hypocrites in the Empire State building.

I've just compared fresh vectors on SS and on AS. Wow... looks like SS is ready to accept just anything to increase the number of vectors.

In these days I proceeded to directly delete more than 1000 images from my portfolio, the most important of my archive, in order to give visibility to the new agencies where I am moving the images archive.

Another user had seen that previously rejected images were suddenly "approved" and appearing in their portfolio. Could that be what has occurred in your case?

A way to boost the total numbers as portfolios are flying out the door :)

That's what happened to Depositphotos before. When they also did a dirty trick, contributors deleted images and/or stopped uploading. I had a small portfolio there, I deleted my best sellers and stopped uploading. Several months later I've got an email from Depositphotos which solemnly declared that 3 photos of mine were approved. It was funny because I submitted those photos maybe 2 or 3 years before that and at first they were rejected. Those were some ordinary textures, the kind of images which they had in excess before the boycott.

Shutterstock ends its fiscal Q2 on June 30. One of the key metrics that is reported during the call to investors is the growth status of the image collection and assets. Never before has Shutterstock reported a shrinking portfolio which will bring questions from the investors. THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO BE NOTICED!

I also deactivated my small portfolio and by doing so I want to show my support to this justified "industrial action". This 0,10 cents nonsense and way it was communicated to us is just utter disrespect to the very hand that feeds their bottomless greed. I also extended upload embargo to Bigstock and advise others do the same. Stay strong!

Whatever you do here do not expect any feedback! I can promise you they will not respond and for good reason. You will only get canned corporate talk. My images are turned off just keep the faith and put your energy into places that will pay fair. Keep up the pressure but never look for a response!

Good luck to convince finance people that massive increase in short term profit, even if long term prospect are slightly worse, is not a good move ;)

Very rough calculation, in a everythink is equal setting. In 2019, 150 mio paid to contributor, with new structure divide this by two which means 75 mio in additional profit, hence more than 300% increase compared with the 20 mio profit made in 2019. Actually, SS try to change from a high valuation high growth stock to a "cash cow" stock, low growth but high cash flow and better net margin. That's why they start paying a dividend now.
