New earnings structure for Contributors

Recommended Posts

This is actually evil in my opinion.  It is immoral and basically robbing us of what we do every day.  It is beyond insulting!  As of today, my uploads stop, period.

@Kate Shutterstock, I've sent three mails and sent a message to contributor support to have my account terminated an all my content removed from Shutterstock, but had no answer yet. I won't be contributing anymore to Shutterstock and already opted-out sales.

You can post a print proving your case, it appears an exception then. Most of us have not improved at the moment.

Yep, agree. The only possible explanation I can think of is an imminent sell-off of the company. They are making the figures look as profitable as possible, hoping that enough contributors will keep their images active (for now) to not affect amount of income / lack of image choice for clients. Give it a couple of months and sell. Trouble is their reputation is already damaged, and trust from us is gone. There has been no attempt to connect with us / explain / apologise, so they clearly have a larger plan that means they just don't care or are hoping enough of us will just humbly accept.

I posted on Linkedin explaining the situation, with links if people want to show support for fellow creatives - I have worked in the brand design business full time and freelance in London for many years, so this message will reach many buyers of stock images. I noticed the Creative Director of a MAJOR brand packaging design agency had seen and liked the post, and will no doubt be on a rolling subscription to SStk.

It does pain me but I have to accept that the good times / decent chance of residual income are over for now. Beginning to upload the rest of my catalogue to other agencies, and hoping someone with at least a thread of compassion buys Shttrstock so I can consider forgiving them and coming back.

So my advice is DISABLE now. Make a stand and show you don't accept this.

Yes, the sell-off explanation could be the one. But it could be also that they just have too many contributors with low amounts of income (like me...) and they anticipate our move to disable and are ready to focus on the high income (pro) profiles. Just my 10 cents on it.

My first mail on May 30 got answered in a couple of hours.I thank you very much for answering on SS behalf, but I'd rather have an official answer on the matter.

Is anything good ever going to come out of Microstock?

Maybe we can still stop Adobe of others in following this. I know, it's harder and harder. I started in 2009 and it's worse every year. But maybe it's time to show them, microstock is nothing without contributors.

Not working for SS. But i mailed Alamy. Then i get at reply. Because of corona the react slower. Also other agencies, the same. Eyeem reacts fast and sometimes. My experience the last months.

Go to the SS side. Fill in the paperwork, fast, and you get a contributor. Maybe that helps. Everybody here has a portofolio YOU Not

I almost never come to the forums despite being with Shutterstock for a decade and referring thousands of customers and buyers. But this announcement is so bad that I just had to say something.

Why would you follow the same path that you have seen other agencies take, that every single contributor has hated and been angered by?

As if the overall strategy of this isn't bad enough, this line is the real kicker:

  • All contributors reset to level 1 for both images and videos every year on January 1st.

So for the first few months of the year, many contributors will be earning 15-25% only! Even big contributors have to take a hit on their first few sales every year?! Why?!

I know it's too late, but this whole approach should be reversed.

Has to be the worst thing I have ever seen from a respected microstock site.

This is how its look like on tier 5. Total joke. Im dissapointed like hell. 0 new uploads here and i spread bad word against SS to every customer i know. 4 of them i already persuade to stick to adobe. I wait some more days but i think only deleting account here is a option. Cannot believe that someone still upload photos here. If someone think level help you this is not true. You still get less than 0,25$ most of time. ODs are rare and 90% of them are still below 2,85$. Now think about 1st january 2021 XD Sorry for my lame english fellow stockers.

I am on level 3 and for the last week the majority of sales were $0.10. I've decided to stay until the end of the year - only because from time to time i get a >2.2 sale,  but i've stopped the uploads the moment i received the message and i will delete my account on the 31 December.

Soon i will upgrade to level 4, and as i already said, momentarily i have some sales that are worth staying for. First of January, however, i will not tolerate to have all my images, illustrations and vectors to be sold for nothing (not even for a few months).

Listen, buddy, as a matter of fact I wrote Shutterstock, that's the point of my message to @Kate Shutterstock, to see what's happening that mails aren't answered. As of not having a portfolio, mine (not a big one, 1600 images, about 70 videos or so) is disabled, I opted-out sales. Or perhaps they just deleted it and didn't answer my mails, in any case I want to know.

Don't know who erected you as forum police, I'm blocking the hell out of you right now.

Whether you are at level 3, 4 (like me ...) or even level 6, you touch the same thing, that is to say $ 0.10, so on January 1st it will really not be worth it any more and I will deactivate my account ...
Good evening everyone.

Look to the info. Talking behind somebodies back. . Also me i dont know you. But if you pm talking about somebody who i dont know. I call that gossip. That is sad. The person he is gossping about. I dont know that person. Him i dont know. But if we all gossip you get a sick society

You may call it "gossip" - up to you. But it still isn't ok to publicly lay out information that was given to you in private.
You might have gotten those numbers directly from me as well, BTW. You'd just have to ask. Wilm's a friend of mine and we frankly talk about our earnings. Thanks to you, he now felt he had to apologize, just because you didn't mind publicly sharing his private message.
And yes, he's right: I roughly sold 800,000 images through Shutterstock.
