New earnings structure for Contributors

Sorry, Skyward Kick!

All contributors will be reset to Level 1 every January, regardless of their activity the year before. The email we sent had the wrong image for the video levels 🤕 so I can see why this is so confusing. The images in the first post in this thread illustrate the real levels for videos and a corrected email is being sent out soon. Level 4 for videos starts at 251 downloads.

I feel sick

I am one of your authors. You make money from my paintings. You eat the bread that I raised. Do you really think you can pay me a dime for a picture? Truth?  So far I am pausing the download of new works. You, for now, have the opportunity to change their minds. If you do not, I will say goodbye to you, I think, not only me

Whether you're on level #1 or level #6 you still get only 10 cents if you sell a sub from the 750 pack...as you can see from the table (line 17):

Just had a download for 1.01 US$. Can't find that one in the table. So still we don't now all about the new schedule.

So basically now assuming from decryption if you dont want  your photos to be used for offensive usage you cant sell it at all? Looks like it means if you sell here you need to allow your photos to be even used in pornographic context... Just WOW

You misunderstood that line, it says "We do not allow customers to use downloaded content in these ways"

@Kate Shutterstock I'm seeing quite a mix of values, the expected $0.10 etc but also $2 - $4.5. These are all still in the SOD category at the moment, so it looks like it isn't quite fixed after all.... needs looking into again I think.

Also, it would be very useful if Shutterstock would actually provide an official table of expected commission amounts rather than allowing contributors to second guess what you're doing. A bit of transparency will go a long way to determine what the impact here is. Trust me, this is to your benefit. As it stands today, earnings look good with more larger licences and only a few lower ones. If the table you (should) provide confirms these are expected amounts and link to X package then great. Otherwise, I will assume these are one offs and that $0.10 and other lower amounts are the expected norm.... which would result in no more work being submitted to SS again from me. So, a bit of transparency here would go a long way... don't just bury your head (Shutterstock) and hope it will go away, it won't. Unless of course you're expecting contributors to go away... in which case you'd be right.

Basically now a contributor who has the same asset (image, illustration, vector) on SS and other sites will offer a buyer the choice to purchase his work for 0.10 (contributor's cut).

Similar for videos.

If that asset is not on SS, the buyer can't buy it cheap. Again, I'm referring to contributor's commission.

If quality assets won't be available for 0.10 on SS, buyers will look elsewhere.

What do you guys think? Makes sense?

I wish SS would change subs packages to a fair, quality based approach. Trimming their database to eliminate low quality content won't be that bad either. Same for videos.

But for now it just looks like they go all in with their new plan, while keeping communication to us to a minimum. Sad...

Different levels MUST have different minimum payments so it would make sense. Seeing people at levels 5 and 6 getting same 10c as people on level 1 is not "rewarding" in any possible way.

These subscription options shouldn't exist in that form anyway. 350 -750 per month should be removed or the price for it increased at last 3 times

This is true. The SS management did not think about the consequences of introducing such cheap subscriptions, and now they make us pay for their own mistakes, while they receive millions of dollars in their fancy office in the Empire State Building.

For some people here SS is the only font of income, and in some countries you can survive with 100 dollars a month...I have to respect them. I can understand the situation of the world now. it's hard for all, and I could be really happy to give my images for 10 cents for a lapsus of time if these think help to survive this company in a moment of difficulty. You just have to be clear and ask. But I think the problem is not that. it;s just about money.

This is my situation, stock sites are the only income, and since 2015 sales on SS went down. For the last 2 years I don't remeber having even 100$. I'm on SS 12 years. But I won't leave. I can't just throw away my work and time that I dedicated. Feels sad, devastated/ No light at the end of a tunnel right now.

Well its pretty much what they doing by now. My sales got 3 time hit. Now to get 36c i sold 3 photos. They exactly know what they doing, They know that at last 80% of sales are 350-750 photos per month subscriptions. They didnt answer till now so obviously they dont care... Well i dont care anymore either.

In terms of business, I like to know the full facts before making a final decision, hence the request for a full official table from Shutterstock documenting the commissions for all active packages. Only seems fair if we are getting a % of them... we need to know what clients are Currently paying.

Yesterday, there were quite a few low valued sales with a few higher value ones. It worked out as an average of $0.372. Today, the average at the moment is nearer $1.583. Way to early to make a final decision yet but once I get a feel as to what I'm dealing with then, I'll make my move. Standard risk management.

What a vicious circle. Many of us will migrate to another stock site, until it gets bought by the same investors.

I still believe that there is a bug in " level percentage " calculations....and I'll give SS 5 working days to clear it.

There is a bug. It's called greed.
