  1. Hello, does anyone have experience with this kind of thing? The website monchat.ca is giving away one of my photos as a free wallpaper. I'll contact them to take it down, but anyone suggest what I should say? Am I entitled to any money for their use of it? (I understand people who steal are unlikely to pay...) Thanks
  2. Hi Everyone, I'm new to this place and curious to know after how many images uploads you got your first download and what was your first payment. I have been a contributor for over a month now and i haven't got any downloads yet. Is it normal for everyone or it's just me. How do you guys select the appropriate tags for your images??? How important are tags for the images? How do you guys motivate yourself and keep uploading and never give up?
  3. Hi everyone ! I'm new here and i am really willing to take photos and sell them. But i know the fact that i need experience. Maybe my style is not properly taked for this site, please give some amazing suggestions to me :) There is lots of new users. You are also going to help them. We all need your help. Thank you ❤️
  4. Greetings to the Shutterstock community. I just recently joined Shutterstock in my quest of pursuing motivation to become a photographer (It would be nice to see my work get approved/used by other people and me getting paid for it). I am constantly reading and I practice my skills in order to become just a tiny bit better than I was yesterday, everyday, the thing is I would love to have some guidance to what I am doing wrong or right so I would love for some critique of my approved snapshots. Thanks in advance! Tl;Dr Please "roast" me, critique my portfolio in order for me to get better. Thanks.
  5. Hello Friends, I am a new member here at SS. I am not a professional photographer but a normal person with 12MP mobile camera. Recently I have submitted around 30 photographs at SS but all except 3 photos of cloud got rejected. Frankly speaking I have no knowledge about photographic techniques in particular but am trying to learn from online resources. Basic reason behind rejection of my photos was overexposure and underexposure, subject not in focus and noise. I am trying to submit one more photograph at SS and have edited it in Snapseed android app. I have blurred outer environment and am trying to focus on wet hair on hand. I will be greatfull to you if you can give some tips about editing and putting proper description because I think this may be the reason I am not able to convey my idea to reviewer. Thanks in advance. Here are my raw image and edited photo : Raw Image : FJ_20190815_170815.dng Edited Photo :
  6. Hi Everyone, First of all I would like to excuse spelling and grammar, as English is not my first language. I am not here to ask how to make money, hence I know my portfolio is VERY small. I am in fact here to improve as a new photographer, and if I make some money of it then great. However, I am struggling to figure out how to find my own photos, when searching on Shutterstock.com. They are not coming up when I enter the title or the keywords. I see them in my portfolio, but not on the actual website. How come? I know it might be a really stupid question, and I've tried searching here (and even on Google) for an answer, before asking you guys. Thank you for taking your time to assist a complete Newbie in this matter 🙂
  7. First off, I am not 100% sure if this category is the right place for me to start out this topic and thread. It's been several months since I created a new thread on Shutterstock. In addition, I am completely new to stock photography, so I don't have a full understanding of how it works. Please bear with me if I sound like I am not used to the ecosystem here, both the forums and Shutterstock Contributor itself. When it comes to taking photos that look interesting or something that might incline users to purchase it, what is it I need to take a photo of? I don't particularly know what are some places in Waterloo, Ontario, where I can take photos of interesting stuff without needing to fill a model release or asking the owner of a building for a property release. Some places I'm thinking of going eventually to take some photos on my phone (12 megapixels, I think) would be the Sugarbrush Park, Waterloo Park, and some rural areas around here. Right now, I got a ton of images of the buildings of the University of Waterloo I intend to upload as editorials, but I don't think those are what customers really want to purchase and download. See, I don't intend to be a full-time photographer. Instead, I'm actually looking for jobs in the software industry, and I essentially want to do creative stuff in my spare time to make some extra pocket money, such as some photography or writing some blogs. My initial goal is try to make $7 a month with this so that I can afford TransUnion without having to worry so much on the money part. Would it help if I take an online course on photography? What about some tutorials on being a Shutterstock Contributor for the first time?
  8. Hi, I'm new here and could use some advice I've uploaded some pics, but none of them seem to be selling. Below is a link to my profile: http://shutterstock.com/g/Susmith+Suresh
  9. Hi, I wrote my first post 2 days back in 'Contributer Experience' forum and it's still in waiting list pending moderator approval. So, who are this "moderators" and how long does it normally take for a post to get approved??
  10. Hi guys, I'm new here. I have got only nine sales till now. I know I have much to learn. Photography is my hobby and am not looking for big returns here. I'm from India and am mostly interested in travel photography (as I love traveling!!). I just want to know a few things- 1. What's the scope of travel photography (mainly from India)? Is there any demand? I searched but couldn't find too many photos from lesser known places like Binsar, Khajjiar etc. 2. How many uploads before I can get regular downloads (depending on my kind of photography)? 3. I do know I have much to learn. I would appreciate if you guys can check my profile and share a few tips to improve my photography and no. of downloads. 4. I do love photography. But it's not my source of income. Still, after how many uploads can I expect a regular monthly payment?

  12. Hello there, I singed up yesterday and wanted to upload my first 10 images for reviewing. 4 images went thru and 6 of them had short description error/. After correction I couldnt upload them. In my profile it says: 4 images will be review within 3 days. Is this standart? Why not 10 photos, thus I have better chance? Also, can I upload the same images to the other stock sites, ones they were excepted on shutterstock? Thank a lot
  13. I am new here, how can I get my first download?
  14. Hello, I would like to ask you (experienced photographers) for my portfolio review. Could you tell me how does it look for you? Are my photos any good? What should I do to improve my skills and up my sales. I have just started with stock photography a week ago. https://www.shutterstock.com/g/anna+sobolewska Thank you for your time and advice
  15. Still enjoying the process, but decided to review some of my very small portfolio... several of the images seem to have lost major keywords from the initial submission. For example an image of a tawny owl on a post, has lost yes... you guessed it "owl" and "tawny" amongst others from the keywording. Similarly a hat on a bench … no longer had "fedora" and "hat" in keywords. I've subsequently revised the submissions to include them again. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Steve.
  16. I'm a beginner with Photography and especially to using stock photographs. Recently I have uploaded a few pictures and some have been approved and some rejected. Some of the rejected ones says I need a model release. I understand that since there are people in the photo, this is required. Can anyone help me with some sort of tutorial or something to educate me on this topic? Also while uploading pictures, I have noticed 'Illustration / Editorial' checklist options. When should I choose these or what type of pictures is this option appropriate for? Kindly help
  17. I've been contributing for a few months, but I've finally taken the plunge and joined the forum. I can't wait to glean information and tips from the pros on here, and to share stories and best practices with everyone. Cheers to all! Carlos
  18. So.. two months in, made a few mistakes, but have reached the dizzy heights of 100+ accepted images. Had my first downloads. Never been on a forum before, here's another first. Lots of engaging portfolios out there. Interesting times. Steve
  19. Hello! I joined shutterstock about one yaer ago. And still no downloads. A few days ago i understand that photos in my catalog must be "published" to sell my photos. It was a big mistake and i fell myself like a fool. Finnaly i published my sets, but no one needs my work. Maybe i do something wrong again? Maybe i must to do something, but dont know what? Tell me please, how to get an effect by my labour? Honoured experts, maybe you can have a look for my portfolio and put some words here? What to do next? How to evolve my portfolio? (Im trying to upload some pics everey day) I love macro, and i spend a lot of time to get some result that will look nice (for me). Really - its a enough hard work, to make macro photo: It needs to set a light, use lens, which fits for theme, needs to choose background and object for shooting; in short it needs a lot of experiments. Because of giant zoom (~100x), blind must be so small, as it can, and as result - light is primary for my challenge. I have got 100W led lights... And. There downstairs is output: For another thing i making macro of flowers, but it not too interesting. I think, that more preferable is to upload packs of images. I'm right? P.S. What do you think about shutterstok as subject. Its yet 'alive'? It's real to make some money here? P.P.S. Sorry for my english, i'm know it not so good. link for portfolio https://www.shutterstock.com/g/mikhailin+mikhail+v
  20. Hi ! What does it take to get a first post approved by a moderator? I posted my first yesterday and it has still not been passed
  21. Hello, I am highly inclined to express myself visually and this got me pursuing photography seriously a while back. I just love creating images. Since I'm relatively new here I would really appreciate any constructive feedback on my portfolio. My Image Portfolio Kind Regards Rohit Bhusan
  22. Hi there, I decided to join Shutterstock to get any available feedback on my photos. I do photography as a hobby, and I am not particularly looking into getting sales rather I am trying to figure out how to take the best generally acceptable photos. Through many rejected photos I have been getting a little bit better, but I know that there can be other ways I can improve without having to spend a lot of money on classes. Generally my favorite subjects to shot are squirrels, however they can be very hard to shoot since they move so fast. I am still trying to figure out how to work the manual setting, and if you have any advice in how to perfect my photography it would be very appreciated. I will also leave my instagram page so that you can see some of my rejected photos. https://www.instagram.com/thephotobliss/ Have a nice day
  23. Hello there i just recently joined ss, Looks like a good place with beautiful people around, any opinions and suggestions for betterment? Any suggestions are very well appreciated
  24. Hey all, Recently i got approved after submitting a set of 10 images, and i have added some more images to my portfolio, but i see not even a single download, i've searched so, but not found anything more better than "Upload more and more to increase chances of sales", i use mobile device for photography which is good but not enough to do so, any good advice on how can i get everything started, thanks.
