  1. A week ago Sunday we were awaken at about 3:00 AM by the most horrific thunderstorm, that light up the sky and shook the house. I've never experienced anything so intense. We were in the midst of a heat wave with 100 degree temperatures and experienced one of those freak "dry lightning" events. That morning, my wife and I commented on how lucky we were that there wasn't a fire. Well that turned out to be premature. We drove to the beach for a walk with the dog and then hunkered down at home to avoid the afternoon heat. At around 4:20, I stepped outside for a break, and that's when I looked up and saw a huge cloud of smoke billowing from over the hills to the south. This was the view from the roof of my house: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/california-river-fire-salinas-monterey-county-1801300195 The neighborhood was abuzz with activity but the authorities hadn't yet called for an evacuation. Here is a shot from that evening: The next morning, the field workers were working as usual as the fire burned nearby: That afternoon, Cal Fire arrived with a fleet of helicopters. They collected water from the local pond to douse the flames. I took these shots from next to the pond: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/helicopters-collect-water-buckets-local-pond-1801313815 https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/helicopter-pilot-collects-bucket-water-pond-1801392601 https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/salinas-california-august-17-2020-cal-1803493255 https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/salinas-california-august-17-2020-cal-1802697325 https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/salinas-california-august-17-2020-cal-1802855740 Then I went back to the house and took some shots from my roof as they passed by: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/salinas-california-august-17-2020-cal-1803465634 https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/salinas-california-august-17-2020-cal-1803501433 https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/salinas-california-august-17-2020-cal-1802880979 By Tuesday the fire started getting close to houses just up the street and we were given evacuation orders, first advisory then mandatory on Wednesday: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/california-river-fire-salinas-monterey-county-1803496585 We ended up staying at a (dog friendly) hotel for 6 nights. In addition to the helicopters, they used a large 747 jet to douse the flames with retardant. They also used bulldozers to make firebreaks and lit backfires to protect the houses. In the end, only one nearby house suffered damage to its deck. Cal Fire saved the day and we were allowed back home on Monday! THANK YOU CAL FIRE!

  8. Hi, I'm a full time freelance photographer/filmmaker and I've been a Shutterstock Contributor for 4 years and have had up until December 2019 been getting nearly all my submitted images accepted. Recently I've been getting a lot of images rejected with the "Similar Content" rejection. I've read through other forum posts regarding this topic but was wondering if anyone has any solutions or workarounds for this issue? Below is an example of a recent photo session upload where I've had many more rejections for "Similar Content" than I've had before. I've recently read through the Shutterstock "Similar Images Guidelines" and have tried resubmitting the image several times. The Image that was accepted is one with the model portraying a sad/depressed student where the image that was rejected shows a happy/excited student. Isn't this enough variation to validate both images being accepted? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
  9. What sort of images do you have that is almost sold multiple times a day and each and every time? I want to know because I have not such images and I am progressing very slowly.
  10. Hello ! My name is Rajesh. I am from India. I am uploading photos on shutterstock from last several months. I have uploaded about 650 images so far. This includes both editorial and commercial. There are also some video footage. You may be amazed to know that only four photos have been downloaded so far. For which shutterstock has deposited only one dollar in my account. I'm surprised, despite having such a big portfolio, just four downloads in the last 6 months. I am worried, whether or not I will reach the Threshold at this birth. Can someone guide me right? Is $ 0.17 value of commercial downloads? $0.17 only get? I have seen some videos that are loaded on shutterstock. He/She explains that they gets $ 50-60 per download, which is sometimes more than $100.
  11. I've uploaded images which have been approved but my portfolio in my catalogue manger is empty. How do I upload the reviewed images? Thank you, Kylie

  13. Hello Everybody, I hope you are all well? I am new to Shutterstock and I have a question, I wonder if anybody can help me? Okay so here goes... I've recently submitted a whole load of images and because they were all of similar contect I entered the details for 'multiple images, multiple description' etc. The title for these images was very generic. It did not give away to much detail but was enough to indicate the general message of the photography. I was planning on adding more detail via the catalog manager once my images had been approved. The description was on topic, spelt correctly and had no gramattical errors in it, as far as I'm concerned. However, after submitting these images the reviewer decided not to approve my images. So this means I have a whole load of unapproaved images all with the 'title' reasoning. Does anybody have an idea if we can appeal this decision? To save contributors from re-uploading their stock and having to go through the metadata input again? Hope to hear your responses soon. Many Thanks, Jade

  15. Hi! I find I've made a somewhat minor mistake in uploading a number of images recently. I want to correct that single mistake in the description of each and all the images that have been rejected under that same reason (1). Is there a fast and easy way to do this? [I'm afraid I'll have to upload each image again, cut paste the keywords and description again for each image, etc.] Any suggestions you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you for your help!
  16. Are the offers of absolutely free image banks in the future will take precedence over images in other paid stocks banks? After all, thousands of images in stocks are replenished every day, but demand lags behind supply. Because people mostly choose the cheapest of the best deals..

  23. Hello to all fellow Shutterstock contributors! I've been submitting images to Shutterstock for a couple of years now, here and there and have a small portfolio of 500 or so images. These earn on a monthly average, about $10-15 or annually, I earn around $0.45 per image / per year on average (this has gone up from an average of $0.40 / per image / per year. Much of my portfolio is Editorial. I do very little Commercial model-released stock, though around 50% is wildlife and landscape images. I'm just curious as to how those with larger portfolios and a longer track-record with Shutterstock are doing? Especially those who have a fair bit of Editorial stock in their collection, as it helps me plan how much time I devote to Shutterstock in the future. To be frank, Shutterstock has a fair volume of sales, but I find that $0.25 and $1.88 licenses don't really supply me with enough money to cover the high cost of producing stock images. I would also be interested to hear from anyone who is making reasonable returns with a 50/50 editorial/commercial collection similar in subject matter to my own. Thanks in advance and look forward to reading any replies!
