He can't make better descriptions, because he didn't create these images, so he has trouble even understanding what is shown in them.
The one titled "An artwork of man and women" for example? That's Belle and the Beast from Disney's version of "Beauty and the Beast".

Not original artwork from Disney, but the character design itself is copyright protected. Should not have been approved even if it wasn't stolen. Can be found all over google. I don't know about the other images, but one stolen image in a port is one too many.

Ugh,  I didn't notice! Well spotted Firn. Helping thieves is not my idea of a good day :(

i uploaded few illustrations as JPEG no issue with size but i get this error with some of JPEGS ( Title must be descriptive and relevant to the subject matter and must be in English. Titles cannot contain special characters, spelling/grammar errors, or repeat words/phrases in excess.)

Can anyone explain what i am doing wrong please?

We can't say any more than what the rejection reason tells you without seeing the description you used. Except to say that sometimes you can pick up hidden special characters when you copy/paste, so be careful of that.

Just had a quick look at your port. Your descriptions are too short/brief and don't describe what is in the image properly. Don't tell people what they can use the image for or it's resolution etc. Instead, describe what you can see. Imagine you are describing what you can see to a blind person.

The image titled "An artwork of a man and woman" could be anything. They are back to back. It is only their heads. It's a line drawing. There is a rose. Colours are black and red on a white background. It's about love. These are the sort of things you need to think about when writing your description.

  3. HodagMedia is right, you can't do it. SS is not a storage system so you have to backup your own images. Downloading your own images is actually against the TOS, so you can't even buy your own images without risking having your port and account closed.

You have reached your account's submission limit for images. Please wait 24 hours to submit more content."

    Hey Shutterstock,

Can you tell us when the limit will be removed ?

    Not yet submitted  4281

    Thanks

I just quickly scanned the replies so sorry if I'm repeating what has already been said.

The limits (presuming nothing has changed) are 100 videos and 500 images per 7 day period.

It says wait 24 hours before trying to submit more but that only works if you have been submitting daily and a few dropped off from 7 days ago, then you can fill that gap upto the limit again. If you submitted 500 images on 1 day you'll have to wait the full 7 days before you can submit again. Hope that makes sense.

  5. What is the reason you want to do this? There might be a better way. It wouldn't be a good idea to do this unless there was no other option.

You would have to completely terminate your account, then you would have to get consent from SS to open a new account. This will take time and may not be approved.

You can't have more than one account without consent from SS . Account termination is different from account closure, just closing the account means it is available to be reopened, so as I understand it, opening another account would be against their TOS as you'd be creating a second account.

If you just want to stop selling for a while you can turn this option on and off easily from your dashboard.

Read the 'Account' section in the TOS: https://www.shutterstock.com/contributorsupport/articles/en_US/kbat02/Submitter-Terms-of-Service-Version-9?q=account+terms&l=en_US&fs=Search&pn=1

So what about the people who claims that who gets regular downloads would go onto Level 2 or 3 within January?

What about them? There will be plenty of people who reach level 2 or even 3 in January. Going by past years I'll be in level 2 before the end of January, just nearer the end than the beginning. And lots of people earn way more than me, I know some of them. So level 3 in January is not impossible either. Unfortunately most people on the forum these days don't earn much, so it gives a distorted view of what is good or bad regarding number of downloads and subsequent earnings.

lol Linda, Sari said she had rain, I said she had more than us ... snow here, not going to happen any time soon I am guessing :D

Sari your place looks lovely. Are you saying your neighbour cleared your side of the fenceline? Neighbours can be a pain, we had to get our neighbour to move his driveway as it was on our property, before he did it, he was trying to say that our house was partly on his land ... umm nope!

We had 21mm of rain to start 2021 off ... I am going to take that as a good omen :)

Happy New Year everyone, may the dl Gods bless us with a profitable year!

Haha, serves me right for speed reading! I know the worlds gone mad but I was thinking it couldn't have gone that mad surely 😂 Phew!

  8. We had a bit of snow that melted quickly and today a hard frost, so the worst I've had to deal with so far is breaking a bit of ice on the duck pond.
Jeff, that is a lot of snow!!
Sari, loooooving the videos. It looks like you have a little winter paradise there :D
    Wendy, you have snow?!?!

Happy New Year everyone. Hopefully we will all get over tomorrows reset quickly. And hopefully 2021 will be a better year in everyway for us all. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My beautiful Persian boy Simba (photo above in this thread) just passed away peacefully while we were giving him love and care and he was responding right up to the last moments. Devastated after 10 years of wonderful joy with this little boy.

I'm so sorry for your loss ((((((((hugs)))))))

    RIP little Simba

Hi. I'm brand new to shutterstock.

I was trying to submit some illustrations that I have made over the years that were originally for Michigan DNR flyers.

They were rejected for “Missing Reference Image"  but.....

Under the guidelines, shutterstock states "Any illustration/vector that is wholly digitally created, such as those drawn on a tablet, do not require a reference image."

That is how I would categorize my "animals of Michigan" drawings.
I do LOOK at a lot of photos in order to determine how the animals look I don;t have live animals to model for me. But the drawings are not filtered photos or auto tracings. They are hand-painted. If you zoom-in you can usually find some sketch-marks remaining even. For "reference" I use a google search usually consisting of several photos and sometime some of my own photos from the zoo. This gives me the best idea of how the animal looks. But there is no ONE photo reference for any of them.

My illustrations ARE isolated with no background because that is how I needed to create them for use on the flyers and also I think that would be the most useful for other people to use in the future.

If I painted in backgrounds, would that help?
Or maybe if I could find versions of them before I cleaned-up the edges? (I usually paint them freely but then "cut them out" to remove stray shading and sketch marks, etc. - Clean edges work better for most things I've used them for)
Should I just give up on submitting this series?

thanks for any insight, opinions or tips

So reference images are a way of you legally saying to SS that you own the copyright to it, that you haven't copied the image from someone else's work, be that a photo/photos or artwork/artworks or otherwise, which would be their copyright not yours and therefore criminal to sell. Or free or public domain which they don't accept either.
If they think this is a possibility they will ask for a RI, adding a background will make no difference.

If you use any reference images add them, but they have to be yours. If you didn't use RI's (you used your imagination) but they are asking for them, then you can attach any sketches or initial drawings for the work instead. If you used someone else's work you need a property release from them, or you can't submit them to SS.

You always need a property release for artwork that wasn't created digitally.

    Hope that helps.

  11. I was set to see a couple of friends outside for Christmas eve lunch, but in the last few hours the rules have changed due to a new strain running rampant, so xmas plans have to be scrapped.
Zoom is looking like the only option to meet anyone now.
I normally cook xmas dinner and have relatives at my house for xmas day. It's going to be very different without them this year. Oh, there is always Baileys to buddy up with I guess! I'll be eating xmas food through to Easter 😣

Hello! Didn't know there was a limit. Tell me where is this described?

This is a quote from Kate on the forum which states "The current limit to how much content you can submit is 100 videos and 500 images per 7 day period."

I think there is a note when you submit content stating the limit, but as I'll never reach those heady heights I have never paid attention to it ;)

I think it changes to another language whenever I click a thumbnail/link in my contributor website (Catalog Manager etc).

I'm guessing you have a Polish account then. Yes, it will keep defaulting back to Polish when you click through one of your own links.
I don't think you can do anything about that now. You could contact support and see if they can change your account to US. I think it's a long shot though. Even if they can do it, it would also mean being paid in dollars rather than your current currency.

Annoying, but I think you will have to learn to live with this one.
