  1. My Wacom has both a mouse and a pen. I use both. The mouse for general use and the pen for details. I am presently creating maps from satellite images and I would have a difficult time doing it without the pen.
  2. +1 I switched to the Mac years ago because I got tired of my system crashing all the time. I cringe whenever my daughter asks me to work on her "Windows" based machine. Once you had a Mac you never go back. LOL
  3. Congrats to your wife Laurin, Because of all the hype I finished the first book Sunday morning and saw the movie that afternoon. Down here in Ecuador it is rated PG15, which I think is more appropriate. (It is the idea of forcing children to kill children that is shocking.) But you really need to read the book to understand the story and the characters. It is difficult to take a book that is written in the 1st person and present it in a 3rd person portrayal. You don't really understand the psychological conflict that is going on in the heroines mind. But I will still say that both the book
  4. Congrats Dave! Sorry you didn't make it all the way but I'm proud of you. It took courage to get as far as you did. I look forward to possibly seeing you in the Chicago episode. The final decision does not come from the chefs, it comes from the producers. Regardless of how well you can cook, if you don't look adorable or talk like a "pr--k" then you have no chance. Would love to try your food some day.
  5. Here in Ecuador piracy is legal, provided you have a "Piracy" license. I can understand SOPA for things like this, although it won't stop in country sales, only internet sales. I saw a notice on the back of a DVD case that read: Rated "P" for pirated. Piracy creates jobs.
  6. Since he has a "pro" account he could actually be charging for the image rather than giving it away.
  7. Glad you're ok. Gives you some experience in case something happens during a competition. You have to plow through. I haven't tried the y-peeler. I have seen it on cooking shows but appears more dangerous than the straight peeler. Not sure I want to give it a try now. I have had my share of mishaps but haven't had to go to the emergency room yet.
  8. I generally read technical books on photography, computers and such. When I was younger I read a lot of Sci/Fi and some of my favorites were "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" and "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein. I enjoy reading John Grisham on occasion. But if I had to pick my all time favorite novel it would be "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
  9. Dave, I have to agree with you on the first one. Down here they put cilantro in everything so it all tastes the same. That is why I cook at home. On number two you have to realize the true meaning of the word "awesome". That is the word that is taught in "Finishing School" to replace the word "Bulls**t" in social gatherings so that you sound more sophisticated. My additions to the list are: 1. People saying "irregardless". 2. People who always blame someone else, from the president down to the bum on the street. No one is responsible for their own actions anymore. 3.
  10. I'm there too. Guess I'll have to buy the book for my grandchildren. Thanks for the heads up.
  11. I have a Wacom PTK-640 which I use with my Macbook Pro. It has both a pen and a mouse. I use the mouse when I do my regular surfing and switch to the pen when I enter Photoshop or Illustrator. I feel that it is invaluable for accuracy and ease of use. I keep it on the right side of my computer. I have used it in front of the computer and also on the couch next to me when I like to sit somewhere other than my desk. It works great and I wouldn't want to be without it.
  12. I use Kindle on my MacBook and on my iPhone. I doubt that I will ever buy another hardbound book again. Been thinking about doing a little e-publishing myself.
  13. Hey Dave, Congrats on passing the first level. That is something I have thought about but have never pursued because I don't think I have the stamina to perform under those time restraints nor the patience to put up with some of the harsh criticism. But I am an avid fan of many cooking shows even though I can't get them down here. I usually purchase them on iTunes and can view them several times before saving them to disk. I lost interest in Hell's kitchen after I found out that the winning contestants never get the position they are promised. I do enjoy Master Chef as it is more familiar
  14. Your traveling with such delicate cargo that could break out in a sweat any minute brings to mind old westerns (or maybe it was just one) in which nitroglycerin was being transported by covered wagon over rocky terrain and it could blow up at any minute! It was intense viewing back then! I'd be a nervous wreck worrying about that genache, much like those old timers were over the nitro! So I'll be praying those elcairs will hold up for ya! (every time I notice this stream today, I think of those westerns---funny what the mind digs out of the memory banks) That was either an
