well, to my eye the fence kills it and without the fence , the rig  should be on the right side as per my eye. the image itself is kinda drab But. That part works for me. Best of Luck.

 

remove fence, trademark and blurry birds, align the white balance, remove banding in the sky (but better not to use the wrong noise reduction) a little up the brightness, contrast and saturation

 

after, possibly, get rejected for poor lighting

 

and in this case you can say: well at least i tried

Tbh it was a lucky shot out of a moving car window that I kinda liked. But happy to learn how to make it better!

The best tip I can give you for making your images better is to work at all the aspects of the shot and learn how to create images and not just take pictures.

 

You said you got lucky and were driving by this and decided to grab a picture. What would have been better is to find a place to pull over, get the best location you can to capture the image, use the principles of photography to get the best image possible.

 

When you took your shot (and I know you were hindered by time and place) you paid little if any attention to what you were getting the picture of. You saw the oil rig and that was pretty much it. You did not pay attention to the fence which as the others said hurt the shot in more ways than just composition. It is out of focus which was as a result of either too shallow of depth of field or just plain movement of the camera. For a good shot you need to pay attention to everything in the viewfinder and not get tunnel vision with the main object. What is around the main object is just as important as the main object.

 

I had a similar experience when I was doing my Route 66 trip a few years back. I saw off to the side a great shot of a windmill. I was driving along and couldn't really just take the shot or find a place to pull over by the side of the road. I had to get off the road, drive back, look for an access road then walk to where I would get the best shot I could. Once I found my spot I noticed storm clouds in the distance that were moving in. Instead of just saying well what I have now is pretty good I'll go with that I waited until the clouds got to where I wanted them. What the result was was one of my best selling images that has made a pretty large amount of money. Why? because I found a way to create an image instead of just taking a picture. It is what is known as the "Art of Photography." Here is the shot.

No idea how secure or safe it is though, so I wouldn't use it for anything commercial.

 

Someone said at one point that they have a folder in the community gallery that they upload pictures to, but if you make a new folder you'll get critiqued...

I use Picasa Web Album of my site on the Blogger engine, only those who know the link to see the image,

 

the prohibition of indexing by search engines as well

theoretically, this is sufficient for protection of the copyright owner, though...
